According to the law, defamation on the Internet, in the media or in public speaking will face a fine of up to 1 million rubles or compulsory work for up to 240 hours, forced labor for up to two years, arrest for up to two months, or imprisonment up to two years.

At the same time, for libel, which was committed with the use of official position, there may be a penalty of imprisonment for up to three years. 

The law also provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to four years for defamation that a person suffers from a disease that is dangerous to others.

At the same time, for libel about an alleged rape, a grave or especially grave crime, a term of up to five years will face.
