Dresden (dpa / sn) - The vaccinations against the corona virus will continue in Saxony over New Year's Eve and New Year without interruption.

On Thursday, four mobile vaccination teams in Dresden, Chemnitz, Leipzig and the Meißen district will be deployed in nursing homes, the German Red Cross announced on Wednesday.

On January 1st, another six vaccination appointments are planned, on the following days up to eight visits each time.

From the coming week onwards, all 13 mobile vaccination teams in Saxony will be active on a daily basis.

The goal is for these teams to have around 14,000 vaccinations by January 12;

In addition, there are vaccinations for hospital staff, which are carried out in hospitals themselves.

According to the information, 68,250 vaccine doses had arrived in Saxony by Wednesday noon. More than half of them (56 percent) were handed over to the clinics. Since two vaccinations are required about three weeks apart, half of the vaccine doses are saved for the second syringe. The vaccine that has arrived so far is therefore already completely planned. A further 34,000 doses of vaccine are expected by mid-January, it said.
