Diez / Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Six employees and two of the almost 500 inmates of the Diez correctional facility have tested positive for the corona virus.

"According to the requirements of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the infected prisoners are in quarantine at a special quarantine station and are professionally cared for by medical staff," said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Justice in Mainz on Tuesday.

"So far, no severe courses are known."

The infected in the quarantine could make phone calls - also by video - and go on a one-to-one session. Discussions with the specialist services, such as contact with the psychological service, are still possible. There were corona restrictions even before the infections occurred. "Basically, there are only escorted exits with staff to avoid contamination from external people." Newly admitted prisoners are first isolated and observed for 14 days. The opportunities to visit have largely been discontinued.
