On Tuesday, 33 patients with covid-19 were cared for in a regular medical ward in Västmanland and seven people with intensive care.

This means that the number of people needing hospital care for covid-19 in the county has decreased slightly during the Christmas week, while the load on IVA remains high.

- Right now we have a lower load than we had fourteen days ago.

You have to be careful not to pull too large gears on it, we will see if it holds up, says Martin Andersson, deputy area manager for emergency care in Västmanland.

Martin Andersson says that it is only after the thirteenth weekend that they are expected to be able to see the possible effects of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

As of December 27, 14,040 people in Västmanland have been confirmed infected with covid-19.

Of these, 266 people have died.

Since Christmas Eve, five people with covid-19 have died, according to the region's statistics.

In the clip above, Martin Andersson comments on the situation in healthcare and tells how they work forward.
