Thirty-six honors of Merit of the Republic

awarded to 21 women and 15 men, including three priests, for having spent their lives for solidarity, volunteering, social inclusion, international cooperation, the promotion of culture, legality and the right to health. The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has identified some examples of civil commitment, dedication to the common good and testimony of republican values.

Angela Buanne

, 54 years old (Naples): "For her contribution to the cause of raising awareness among young people on the issue of road safety and the fight against alcoholism and Saturday night massacres".

She is the mother of Livia Barbato, who died in her early twenties in July 2015 from injuries sustained in a car accident caused by her boyfriend, who in a state of intoxication drove in the wrong direction for several kilometers. 

Nicoletta Cosentino

, 49 years old (Palermo) who, a victim of domestic violence, after a recovery path undertaken in the anti-violence center Le Donne Onlus in Palermo, and with the support of the Centro Astalli and the Pellegrino della Terra Association, manages to overcome a personal story of abuse and to rebuild one's life.

, 32 years old (Verona), animator of the Quid Onlus social cooperative which has a double objective: to recycle excess fabrics, coming from inventories of major brands;

give work to disadvantaged women and people with frailty in general.

Driver of the Rome Transport Company (Atac) for 11 years.

In September 2020 he saved the life of a woman who was about to throw herself from the bridge in Via delle Valli in Rome.

, 45 (Rovereto - Trento), owner of Barber Factory 1975. Following the meeting with Tommaso, a 2-year-old autistic child, and his mother, Barbara, he decided to foresee "the hour of quiet": a time dedicated to cutting the hair of autistic children in a serene and comfortable environment, not very noisy and not crowded, which protects them from sources of stress and therefore risks of crisis. 

Fabiano Popia

, 77 years old (Valsinni - Matera), in 1995 lost his daughter Rosella, victim of a road accident in Valsinni, where he was spending his summer holidays.

Fabiano and his wife Elvira, respecting his wishes, decide to donate the organs, making Rosella the first multi-organ donor in the Basilicata Region: he saves 7 people.
