Hellenthal (dpa / lnw) - After Winterberg in the Sauerland, the Eifel community of Hellenthal has now appealed to snow-hungry day trippers not to come anymore.

"As much as we like the guests in principle, we now appeal to the consideration not to come if possible," said Mayor Rudolf Westerburg (non-party) on Tuesday of the German press agency.

All parking spaces around the places Udenbreth and Hollerath are occupied, the municipality announced on its website.

"Parking along the main road is no longer possible," it said.

Sanitary facilities are "unfortunately none" available.

Tuesday was the fourth day in a row with an "extreme rush of visitors," said Westerburg.

He estimated that around 1500 to 2000 visitors had come to the region in the past few days.

There was no traffic jam on the access roads.

Westerburg showed great understanding for the day trippers: "85 to 90 percent are families with small children who just want to get out of their cramped apartments," he said.

People come from all directions, for example from Düsseldorf, Neuss, Cologne and Belgium, up to two hours away by car.

Eleven employees of the public order office are on duty to inform visitors about compliance with the corona rules.

Larger groups would be addressed.

“The people are all very considerate.

We have no ruffians or rabble.

People are just happy that they can go on a trip. "

Most of them only come for two or three hours to experience nature.

"We have never had so many snowmen in the meadows as on Monday."

Despite the request not to come, Hellenthal published a “current winter sports report”.

The snow hiking trails are signposted and easy to walk with the sledge, it said.

"However, the trails are not groomed because the snow conditions do not yet allow this."

According to the municipality, there are 16 centimeters of snow on the Weißer Stein mountain (692 meters).
