The United States has repeatedly criticized the gas pipeline and Europe's dependence on energy imports from Russia.

The project is primarily backed by the Russian state-controlled company Gazprom, but also by non-Russian companies.

The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be approximately 246 km long and is partly laid in the Swedish economic zone.

Work on the management has been stalled for just over a year due to the US threat of sanctions against the project.

By then, about 230 miles were clear.

The company now confirms that it has resumed work with a Russian pipe-laying vessel in the German economic zone.

"The pipeline vessel Fortuna has completed a 2.6 kilometer long section in the German economic zone where the water depth is less than 30 meters," writes Steffen Hartmann at Nord Stream 2's communications department in an email to SVT

Hartmann states that it now remains to put 120 kilometers in Danish waters and about 30 kilometers in German waters.

However, the company does not want to state what the plans look like in the near future.

"We do not have the opportunity to disclose details about the construction itself, but will inform about the continued plans in due course."

The plan was for the management to be ready by the end of 2019.

But when there was only about 160 km left to build, the United States decided that ships working with Nord Stream 2 must immediately cease all construction activities if they want to avoid US sanctions.

"If they choose to carry out sanctioned activities, they will give up their access to the US economy," Williams S. Martin, spokesman for the US Embassy, told SVT News when the work was stopped a year ago.

According to the British news agency Reuters, the United States is preparing new sanctions against Nord Stream 2. Reuters refers to information from the outgoing Trump administration.
