Oberstdorf (dpa) - Even in the long history of the Four Hills Tournament there has rarely been such chaos as around Poland's ski jumping team.

First, Klemens Muranka tested positive for the corona virus, the entire team was sent to quarantine and excluded from the start of the tour in Oberstdorf.

On Monday evening, 26-year-old Muranka received a negative result.

The World Ski Federation FIS wrote that Poland around Kamil Stoch and defending champion Dawid Kubacki could still start in another negative series of tests.

Yes, what now?

The final decision should be made on Tuesday (until around 10 a.m.).

If all Polish tests are negative again, Kubacki, Stoch and Co. are allowed to start despite the corona-related missed qualification.

The Fis would then allow 62 jumpers instead of the usual 50 with an exception and even give the Poles time in the afternoon to catch up on the trial jumps they missed on Monday in the empty ski jumping arena.

If, on the other hand, Muranka or one of his teammates tests positive, the previously decided exclusion will apply.

In general, the start of the tour in the Allgäu was a little unfortunate.

In addition to the Polish corona turmoil, which clearly outshone all sporting topics on Monday, the reduced field in the qualification also made heavy snowfall and adverse conditions to create.

A fair competition did not materialize.

As if all of this wasn't enough, Germany's top athlete Markus Eisenbichler also reprimanded those responsible for breakdowns in the usual process.

"It was kind of a child's birthday," grumbled Eisenbichler.

On Tuesday (4.30 p.m. / ZDF and Eurosport) everything should get better.

The sporting aspect and the expected duel between Eisenbichler and Norway's long-term winner Halvor Egner Granerud had initially faded into the background.

But if points are at stake for overall victory in the first of the four competitions, that will change quickly.

Eisenbichler quickly ticked off 25th place in the preliminary round.

“I don't want to overestimate that.

There is the saying for me: Qualified and done, ”said the Bavarian.

If the Poles are now admitted, this slogan applies to the entire ski jumping field.
