After the UDR was numbered in a vote against it

Congress deals a slap at Trump ... and the danger of an unprecedented insult is approaching

Republicans and Democrats united numerically, the day before yesterday, in a first vote against President Donald Trump, who now sees the threat of Congress overtaking the veto that he placed on the defense budget approaching, in an unprecedented insult to a president whose term is nearing the end.

More than two-thirds of the representatives present in the House of Representatives, including more than 100 Republicans, voted in favor of this $ 740 billion budget "despite the president's objections."

The move is a blow to a president who has consistently stressed the strong support he enjoys in his own camp, as it seems a bad omen for the billionaire ahead of the final vote in the Senate, expected this week.

If the Republican Senate rejects the president's objections, it will be the first time that Congress has overridden the veto of the 45th president of the United States.

And for a man who has always presented himself as the king of negotiations, last week was a real insult.

And after he threatened, last Tuesday, not to sign a text that was negotiated with the approval of his government, he finally signed the $ 900 billion economic aid plan on Sunday evening, away from the cameras.

And he tried as much as possible to save face after this change in his position, by issuing a ambiguous statement indicating that the confrontation had paid off, but this does not deceive anyone, as the president did not get anything, but rather submitted to the order.

And the scene seems more cruel, because it reveals the extent to which Trump, since his defeat, on the third of November, especially his strange campaign to challenge the election result through conspiracy theories, has become more united, less influential and less respectful.

Trump will remain president until January 20, but his word no longer has any weight in power circles.

In a strange development, the New York Post published an editorial on Sunday evening, demanding that he put an end to this "sad comedy" and recognize Joe Biden's victory, and the newspaper wrote: "We understand, Mr. President, that you are angry because you lost, but keep going This road is catastrophic ».

The House of Representatives rejected Trump's veto on the defense budget by an overwhelming majority, represented by 212 Democrats, as well as 109 Republicans.

The text, which was reached after long negotiations, stipulates a 3% increase in the salaries of defense workers, and makes it possible to "support our forces and defend America," in the words of Republican Mac Thornberry, who appealed to his colleagues to "put the nation's interest first."

This is because Trump's obstruction of the plan, announced on December 23, has sparked discontent even inside his camp.

The president believed that the text exaggerated its inclination in favor of China, but it also provided the possibility of renaming the military bases bearing the names of Confederate generals who fought in defense of slavery during the Civil War (1861-1865).

He justified his opposition by saying that the text does not include the abolition of the law known as "Article 230", which protects the legal status of the social networks that it accuses of being biased against it.

The Republicans warned that this text is "very basic", and in a rare coalition, 231 Democrats and 44 Republicans stood with Donald Trump, to vote on increasing the value of aid checks approved in the plan to revive the American economy affected by the crisis, from $ 600 to $ 2000 for Americans.

But the fate of this measure in the Senate remains uncertain.

Trump's disruption of the defense budget plan, announced on December 23, sparked discontent within his camp.
