Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune returned to his country on Tuesday after spending two months being treated in a German hospital after being infected with the Coronavirus, during a period in which the country was living in the wake of a political and economic crisis.

Tebboune, 75, appeared in pictures broadcast on state television in better condition than his last appearance 3 weeks ago, but his right foot was bandaged without any explanation in particular.

The television broadcast, in the Eighth News Bulletin, which was several minutes late, a brief statement by the president from Boufarik military airport, in which he said, "Being far from the homeland is difficult, and it is more difficult for those who bear responsibility."

He continued, "Thank God for the auspicious return and there is little left, very little" of the treatment period.

Tebboune traveled to Germany in late October, days after he said that he had entered health isolation after his two assistants were tested positive for the Corona virus.

On the first anniversary of his election, on December 13, he made his first appearance since leaving Algeria, through a speech on Twitter transmitted by state television, in which he said that he is recovering from the disease and will return in a period of between one and three weeks.

Tebboune has promised a series of reforms to help diversify the economy, and this week he is expected to sign next year's budget law and approve the dates for local and parliamentary elections soon.
