After plunging Washington into uncertainty, and while millions of Americans lost their unemployment benefits this weekend, Donald Trump finally ratified, on the evening of Sunday, December 27, the $ 900 billion stimulus plan .

The American president claims to have obtained, in return, commitments from elected Republican officials.

However, these do not confirm this.

The announcement first arrived on Twitter, as usual, on Sunday evening.

Donald Trump has said he has very "

good news

 ".

Then the White House announced it: the American president signed the plan to help revive the economy.

A turnaround, after five days of suspense.

Five days during which Donald Trump has continued to qualify this plan as "

shame

" and to demand an increase in aid to poor families.

The “shutdown” avoided, but at what cost exactly?

In a press release, the US president explains that he has obtained commitments from elected Republican officials.

They would, according to him, have agreed to submit to Congress a vote on an independent measure to increase financial aid from 600 to 2,000 dollars.

Just hours before signing, he tweeted "

2,000

 ", "

2,000

" again to demand that this aid drop from $ 600 to $ 2,000.

“

Remember it's

China's fault!

 He added.

The opening of an investigation into

possible electoral fraud

during the presidential election in November, which saw Democrat

Joe Biden prevail over the outgoing president

, would also have been obtained by Donald Trump, who welcomed this outcome .

But while the US president presents things as a victory, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has not confirmed Donald Trump's claims.

In a press release, he simply thanked the president for agreeing to ratify the aid plan.

Not a word, however, on any promises in exchange for this ratification.

By signing the recovery plan, Donald Trump also validated the government budget, thus avoiding a “shutdown” of the administration (closure of public services), like the one that

hit the country at the end of 2018

.

It had lasted a month and three days, the longest in the history of the United States.
