New violence took place on the sidelines of the campaign of the opponent Bobi Wine for the presidential election scheduled for January 14 in Uganda, when he will face the outgoing president Yoweri Museveni.

Traveling near Masaka (South), three journalists were injured in clashes with police on Sunday, December 27, and a member of the opponent's security died, according to his campaign team.

Bobi Wine was heading to Lwengo district, near the town of Masaka, when the

clashes with the police

started.

According to law enforcement spokesman Fred Enanga, " 

tear gas was used and journalists were unfortunately caught in the process of dispersing the group

 ."

An investigation into the circumstances of the event has been opened.

In total, three journalists were injured.

One of them, Ashraf Kasirye, cameraman for Ghetto TV, was hit in the face in particular.

According to Mathias Mpuuga, one of the vice-presidents of Bobi Wine's party, a member of the candidate's security died during the journalist's transfer to a hospital in Kampala: according to him he

was

hit by a truck. the military police

 ”.

Statement denied by the spokesperson for the Ugandan army, General Flavia Byekwaso: she assures that Francis Senteza Kalibala was not run over, but fell from a car that was moving at high speed, according to her.

After these events,

Bobi Wine's campaign

is for the moment suspended and no resumption date has yet been announced by his party.
