Backnang (dpa / lsw) - Three frightened horses ran across a street in Backnang (Rems-Murr-Kreis) and were hit by a car.

A 68-year-old woman was driving her car on a county road on Monday afternoon when the animals suddenly crossed the street, the police told Aalen.

According to initial investigations, the horses had been startled by a dog that was not on a leash.

The horses were so badly injured in the collision that a vet had to euthanize them.

The road has been temporarily closed.

The driver was unharmed, said a spokesman.
