The Russian health authorities announced a decline in the number of deaths and infections with the emerging corona virus (Covid-19), as 487 deaths and 27,787 cases were recorded, during the past 24 hours.

The Russian Epidemic Control Center said that a decline had been recorded in the last two days, and the previous daily death toll was 552 cases, and more than 28,000 infections.

The center confirmed in a statement that there are 20,480 people who have recovered during the past 24 hours, which raises the total of those recovering to two million and 471309 people.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, Russia has recorded three million 78,035 cases of the virus, and the total number of deaths reached 55,265.

According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University, Russia ranks fourth in the world in terms of the number of Corona infections, after the United States, India and Brazil.

Moscow, the capital and largest city of Russia, has allowed residents over the age of 60 to book appointments to receive the Coronavirus vaccine, since yesterday.

This step came after the Russian Ministry of Health approved the "Sputnik V" vaccine, to be given to the elderly after a successful trial period.

"This is a good thing, because the elderly are the group most at risk of contracting the disease most," Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said in a statement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin postponed receiving the vaccine, and it is still not clear when he will receive it, although he personally supported it, saying that his daughter had been vaccinated.

Yesterday, Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, denied that the delay could undermine confidence in the vaccine, according to statements carried by the state-run TASS news agency.

Putin said earlier that he will receive the vaccine as soon as Russian health authorities allow it to be offered to the elderly.

Putin is 68 years old.

Deaths decreased within two days from 552 to 487.
