Barmstedt (dpa / lno) - Dozens of farmers protested with their tractors in front of a dairy in Barmstedt (Pinneberg district) out of concern about low milk prices.

The farmers drove through the town honking their horns on Monday evening and parked their vehicles in front of the company.

On the posters and fabrics attached to the tractors one could read: "Nobody should ever forget it - we farmers take care of the food" and "Despite a lot of effort and skill, the farmer only has the rope".

According to the police, around 25 tractors took part in the action.

With the protests, the farmers want to draw attention to what they consider to be a threatened price drop in supermarkets for agricultural products.

The background to the campaign is the current butter price negotiations between the discounter Aldi and the dairies.

The farmers fear that prices that are too low will lead to their livelihoods.

Aldi confirmed the current tenders for butter, but did not give any details about the price negotiations.

On Sunday evening and Monday, hundreds of farmers had already driven through the streets with their tractors in front of Aldi central warehouses in Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony.
