On average, Swedes spend a thousand kronor a month on buying new.

In 30 years, consumption of clothing and textiles has doubled.

An item of clothing is used an average of 7-8 times.

Then it is dropped, thrown away or ends up at the bottom of the closet.

Fashion activists refuse new

"Karlstad parts" is a project where 9 fashion activists, they call themselves f / activists, will refrain from buying new clothes for nine months.

The project is based on the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Västra Götaland region and the Science Park in Borås and now includes seven municipalities, including Karlstad.

For almost a whole year, the activists will refrain from buying new clothes, only second hand.

All to focus on our over-consumption and our clothing as an environmentally damaging industry.

"Thought it would be tougher"

Used clothes will be a permitted alternative to the boycott of new garments.

But is it possible to resist the temptations of midday nests?

- I actually thought it would be tougher.

We started when the summer sales started.

But since we can shop second-hand, the buying behavior has not changed so radically, even though it has changed so that you do not buy newly produced, says f / activist Fredrik Wingqvist.
