SVT Nyheter has on several occasions examined the beauty industry.

Among other things, we have been able to show how salons mislead about staff training and about how the unregulated market benefits criminal forces.

The government wants the requirements for beauty treatments to be tightened.

Among other things, by only allowing doctors, nurses and dentists to perform aesthetic injection treatments with botox and fillers.

"No political pressure"

The idea was that the new law would enter into force on 1 January 2021 - but now it is clear that it has been delayed by six months.

- There is almost no political pressure on the issue, says Lars-Erik Holm, chairman of the Council for Aesthetic Treatments, REBS, which works for a safer industry.

He was previously director general of the National Board of Health and Welfare and initiated an investigation into the issue already ten years ago.

- We must remember that it has taken a decade to get from ear to loaf.

It's not good.

In the meantime, many have been injured completely unnecessarily, says Lars-Erik Holm.

Serious consequences

Nurse Monica Hedberg works to train doctors and nurses in how to perform injection treatments.

She knows what risks there are if the syringes are set incorrectly.

- You can not close your mouth for three months, do not chew, you get a feeling that you can not breathe, may have difficulty swallowing, your eye hangs for three months.

Such consequences will occur if you inject in the wrong muscle group.

And it's not fun, says Monica Hedberg.

How do you see this bill being delayed?

- I think it's a disaster.

There will be consequences both socio-economically and at the individual level.

We are one of the few countries in the world that does not have a regulated market.

Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) has previously commented on the legal delay to SVT Väst.

- We have had suggestions before but they have not been good enough.

It is important, once you are going to regulate this industry, that you do it in a way that you really get to the problems.

Getting rid of the insecure, unscrupulous and perhaps dangerous actors is of course very important.
