Hundreds of British tourists who had been ordered to quarantine to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus at a famous ski resort in Switzerland ``flee'', causing local authorities to be in an emergency.

According to foreign media such as the Daily Guardian in the UK and Deutsche Belle (dw) in Germany on the 27th (local time), more than 200 British tourists who were recently quarantined at a ski resort in Verbier, Switzerland, secretly left the accommodation.

Authorities say more than half of the 420 people in quarantine have disappeared, some of which have appeared in France.

On the 21st, the Swiss government ordered all inbound travelers from the UK to self-quarantine for 10 days after the 14th to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 mutant virus from the UK.

The measure also applied to British tourists staying at Verbier, a world-class ski resort.

Verbier is popular with the British, which usually accounts for 20% of tourists in winter, and is also called'Little London' by locals.

Local authorities explained that "the majority of the quarantined people followed the instructions for about a day and then ran away secretly."

The facts of British tourists fleeing were revealed after the hostel confirmed that they did not answer the phone and did not touch the meal.

Authorities say the whereabouts of British tourists are currently unclear.

Some have been reported to have called the'escaped' lodgings to ask if they have to pay for them.

The mutant virus, which was first known to appear in southeastern England in September, is known to have up to 70% stronger transmission power than the existing Corona 19 virus.

There are two cases of mutant infections originating from the UK in Switzerland.

To date, more than 40 countries, including Switzerland and South Korea, have restricted entry from the UK to prevent the inflow and spread of mutations.
