Augsburg / New York (dpa) - The New Year's Eve gala of the "Met Stars Live in Concert" series with stars from the New York Metropolitan Opera comes from Augsburg on the last day of the year.

She unites the two sopranos Angel Blue (USA) and Pretty Yende (South Africa) as well as the tenors Javier Camarena (Mexico) and Matthew Polenzani (USA) in the Parktheater in the Kurhaus Göggingen - without an audience.

The pianist Cecile Restier will accompany the four soloists on the piano.

In addition to arias, duets and ensembles from operas from Donizetti to Puccini, the program includes adaptations of operetta classics and the Neapolitan hit “O sole mio”.

The song “Auld Lang Syne” should be heard at the finale.

According to the PR agency, the New Year's Eve gala will be broadcast live on the Metropolitan Opera website on Monday, the ticket costs 17 euros.

The stars of the Met in New York also had to improvise a lot in Corona year 2020 and still stayed in touch with the music fans.

Since the Met was closed from March due to the pandemic, concerts were sometimes organized in extraordinary locations in the USA and Europe.

Most recently, bass baritone Bryn Terfel gave a program on December 12th in the cathedral in Brecon (Wales), including Christmas carols, which could be viewed worldwide via streaming.

"Although our stage in New York is dark, we are determined to bring a little opera light into the homes of music lovers all over the world," said Met director Peter Gelb: "In these terrible and challenging times, this is part of our artistic mission . "

As long as the artists are ready and venues are available, they will continue: "We want our loyal audience to know that the Met is there for them, whether it's a pandemic or not."

The opera house originally intended to reopen at the end of this year, but the entire season has now been canceled.

The current concerts without an audience were recorded with several cameras, brought together by satellite in a control room in New York and broadcast live via the Met platform.

The program is available online and via Smart TV.

Sometimes it had to be rescheduled at short notice because the venues had turned into corona hotspots shortly before.
