Erfurt / Zeulenroda-Triebes (dpa / th) - According to Health Minister Heike Werner (Linke), the capacities of the Thuringian hospitals will also be sufficient in the next few weeks to treat all people in the country seriously ill with corona themselves.

But that is not a reason to be careless in the fight against the pandemic, she said on Sunday in Zeulenroda-Triebes of the German Press Agency.

"But it will always be an act of strength."

The hospital structures in Thuringia are, however, robust.

There are currently enough free intensive care beds and intensive care staff in Thuringia to accept some corona patients from Saxony. According to Werner, patients who are seriously ill with Covid-19 are initially treated in so-called Level 1 hospitals within the four Thuringian planning regions. These are usually larger hospitals that cover the entire range of medical services. If in individual cases the capacities are completely exhausted, the patients will be distributed within Thuringia. In addition, there is an emergency reserve of intensive care beds in the clinics. Even more important than the number of free beds is the question of whether there will be enough medical staff available in the next few weeks to care for patients in the beds, said Werner. She therefore warned that everyone should continue to reduce as many contacts as possible and adhere to the hygiene and distance rules.
