Ungerhausen (dpa) - When checking a car at a gas station in the Swabian district of Unterallgäu, the police officers could not believe their eyes: In the trunk of the car from Middle Franconia they found three live sheep.
The animals were transported by two men in disregard of any animal welfare and hygiene rules, the police said on Sunday.
The two vehicle occupants were reported for the illegal transport of the sheep.
After the inspection on Saturday, the animals were housed in a suitable manner by the police.
How the two men got to the sheep and what they intended to do with them is still the subject of the investigation.
