Three areas are particularly monitored: Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the Alpes-Maritimes department and the Grand Est.

It is in this latter region that the mayors of Reims and Nancy are calling for confinement without further delay.

Emmanuel Macron now has two options in front of him.

If the numbers are bad,

the reopening of cinemas, museums and theaters, planned for January 7, would indeed be postponed.

Matignon procrastinates

The other scenario, the darker one, if the numbers are really bad, the government could tighten the screws with the possibility of imposing outright re-containment.

For now, the Prime Minister's entourage is procrastinating, it is still too early.

The government should take stock of its strategy in the middle of the week.
