Dresden (dpa / sn) - Saxon companies and the self-employed have been supported in the corona pandemic with financial aid amounting to billions.

In the first lockdown alone, emergency aid from the federal and state governments totaled around 1.4 billion euros, as the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Sunday.

The Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) has paid out around 752 million euros for more than 19,000 applications since the end of March as part of the state's own loan program “Sachsen hilft Sofort”.

Around 632 million euros are allocated to emergency aid from the federal government for almost 83,500 applications.

The applications could be submitted by the end of May.

Most of the loans went to applicants from Leipzig (around 136.7 million euros), followed by Dresden (129.4 million euros) and the Erzgebirgskreis (56.3 million euros).

Most of the funds for emergency aid from the federal government went to these regions.

"The federal and state governments expect people and companies to do a lot with the Corona measures," said Minister of Economic Affairs Martin Dulig (SPD).

The rules are necessary to cope with the pandemic, explained Dulig and at the same time pointed out that the relief measures in Germany are “probably unique in the world”.

Companies and the self-employed affected by the corona pandemic were also able to apply for November aid from the federal government; according to the ministry, more than 44 million euros have so far flowed to Saxony.

Since December 23, the so-called December aid can also be applied for.

In order to support start-ups in the corona crisis, Saxony has also set up an aid fund.

So far, 38 young companies have been supported with more than 17 million euros in order to secure liquidity in the Corona crisis.

A total of 86 inquiries from start-ups had been received by December 23, 2020.

The program is to be extended until the end of June 2021.

In addition, the Free State also wants to invest in companies that have got into trouble due to the corona.

The fund has a total of up to 370 million euros.

So far, six applications have been received for such participation.
