Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - An unusual cooking method led to a smoldering fire in an apartment in Saarbrücken.
A man there had been cooking food in a large pot for several hours.
To do this, he put bricks on the tiled floor and placed a gas stove on top.
But the heat from the stove carried over to the bricks and from there to a wooden beam under the floor, where a smoldering fire started.
The fire brigade pried open the kitchen floor on Sunday night and put out the fire.
Nobody was injured, the 48-year-old now has to answer for negligent arson.
