Düren / Berlin (dpa) - The Berlin Volleys closed 2020 with their fifth victory in a row.

In the top-class volleyball Bundesliga match at the SWD powervolleys Düren, the capital club just won 3: 2 (25:20, 25:20, 25:27, 29:31, 15:10) on Sunday after a tough fight.

The guests awarded a total of four match balls in the third and fourth sets.

The outstanding man for the winner was the Frenchman Tim Carle, who made the preliminary decision in this game in the tie-break with three aces in a row to lead 9: 6.

The Berlin team had to do without player Sergej Grankin and middle blocker Kevin Le Roux due to an injury.

New signing Denis Kaliberda only came for short appearances due to his lack of training.

In the first two rounds, the powerful attacks by Carle and Benjamin Patch made the Düren difficult to create.

But in the third movement the thread broke with the guests.

The Rhinelander came very close to winning the set at 23:20, but then fell behind again at 23:24.

The BR volleys could not use the following match ball.

A mistake by Cody Kessel finally decided the section in favor of Düren.

The hosts got stronger now.

Ironically, a line-up error by Berliners gave Düren a point to 21:18 in the fourth round.

But again the BR Volleys were wide awake in crunchtime and fought for three more match points without being able to ensure success.

With the fourth set ball, Düren saved himself nervously into the tiebreak.

In the decision-making set, the Berliners then clearly prevailed after a 6: 6 intermediate result with strong serves from Carle and the Brazilian Eder Carbonera.
