Erfurt (dpa / th) - After months of waiting for a corona vaccine, Thuringia has received a first batch.

The vaccination starts on Sunday in a nursing home, where older people who are at a particularly high risk of a severe Covid 19 disease should be vaccinated first.

But many other people are also interested in the vaccination.

In the first few weeks, the vaccine will still be rare - not only in Thuringia.

Who's your turn when - there are rules for that.

The most important facts about vaccination in Thuringia:

How much vaccine will Thuringia have in the next few weeks?

It starts with deliveries of a total of 19,500 vaccine doses by the end of this year.

The first around 10,000 cans were brought to Thuringia on Saturday by refrigerated transport and accompanied by the police.

From January onwards, 19,500 vaccine doses should arrive in the first seven calendar weeks - in total, Thuringia will initially have around 156,000 vaccine doses.

For immunization, two vaccinations are required per person at an interval of about three weeks.

It is planned that in the last week of December and in the first two weeks of January up to 9750 people will each receive a first vaccination.

From the fourth calendar week in 2021, around 10,000 people will receive a first vaccination per week and 10,000 people will receive their second vaccination.

Who will be vaccinated first?

For the time being, there is not enough vaccine available to immunize masses of people against Covid-19.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has therefore set the order of those population groups who are particularly at risk of falling ill or even dying from Covid-19 - and should therefore be immunized preferably.

For the vast majority of people interested in voluntary vaccination, this means exercising patience.

What does this ranking look like?

Top priority is given to over 80s, staff and residents in nursing homes, health workers in intensive care units, emergency rooms and emergency services.

This is followed with “high priority” among others over 70 years of age and people at high risk of severe corona courses - for example with trisomy 21, dementia or an intellectual disability.

The third category with "increased" priority includes people over 60 years of age, previously ill - for example diabetics, cancer, heart and asthma patients and members of certain professional groups.

These include police officers, firefighters and pharmacy staff, but also teachers and educators in important vital economic sectors.

When it finally starts for most people: How does the vaccination work?

29 central vaccination centers are to take over nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Health, they are expected to start work on January 13th.

They are located in the rooms of the medical on-call service, in hospitals and municipal event centers and are gradually ramped up according to the availability of the vaccine.

They should be open between six and twelve hours a day.

The Thuringia Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians is responsible for setting up and managing the vaccination centers.

There are also ten mobile vaccination teams for use in nursing homes, but also for vaccinating other people with restricted mobility.

Nursing home and hospital staff are to be vaccinated on site - also with the help of company doctors and resident doctors.

Why central contact points?

Can't the family doctors do that in their practices?

In the first phase of the corona vaccination, this is not possible due to the special storage requirements of the currently available vaccine.

The vaccine must be cooled at 70 degrees if stored for a long time.

Doctors in private practice usually do not have such special cooling options, so the vaccine is stored centrally in Thuringia.

Family doctors should only be involved when sufficient vaccines are available and less demanding in terms of storage.

Health Minister Heike Werner (Linke) hopes that this will be possible in the second half of 2021.

How are the vaccination centers staffed?

According to KV Thuringia, around 360 medical and non-medical employees are required to operate the facilities in order to be able to occupy two shifts from Monday to Friday.

So far, 900 doctors have volunteered to be vaccinated.

KV assumes that around 29,000 people can be vaccinated every week.

How do you get a vaccination appointment?

Appointments will either be made online from January 4th via the website www.impfen-thueringen.de or, for people who do not have internet access, by calling 03643-4950490.

However, online access has not yet been activated for appointments.

Important: If you don't have an appointment, you won't be vaccinated!

And if you want to have an appointment, you have to prove that you belong to a population group to be vaccinated.

The offer is initially only available to those Thuringians who, according to the vaccination regulations of the Federal Ministry of Health, belong to the group of people whose vaccination has the highest priority.

How is this proven?

According to the regulation of the Federal Ministry of Health, an identity card or other photo ID should be sufficient for old age.

Otherwise, certificates from the institutions or companies must be submitted, and in the case of previous illnesses, a certificate (medical certificate).
