It is known that Romans like to eat their lunch outside, but this is the first time they have been able to produce a complete restaurant - thermopolium - with everything from advertising paintings to leftovers.

The newly discovered restaurant has not yet been opened to visitors.

Pompeii is classified as a World Heritage Site and one of Italy's hottest tourist destinations.

Pompeii near Naples was destroyed in 79 AD in a violent volcanic eruption.

The city then had about 13,000 inhabitants.

The lava and ash came so quickly that people did not have time to escape - and thanks to that, the present can see how the past was lived.

About two-thirds of the area has been uncovered and analyzed since excavations began in the mid-18th century, writes Reuters.
