Passenger plane from Great Britain landed in Sweden

Due to the new mutation of the coronavirus, it has been forbidden to transport passengers from the UK to Sweden since 21 December.

Still, 33 people who boarded the plane landed in London at Arlanda on Saturday morning.

- It is not allowed to fly from Great Britain to Sweden, it is a government decision.

Of the 33 passengers, 29 were Swedish citizens, four were Finnish citizens who were going on a flight to Helsinki.

According to Mikael Andersson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Agency, this is a misunderstanding and that British Airways misunderstood the Swedish authorities' message.

- This is a trip that has gone against the existing flight ban that the government has decided on.

As I have described it to me, the airline has misunderstood the information about what rules currently apply to air traffic to Sweden.

The Swedish Transport Agency has informed the British Civil Aviation Administration that British Airways has violated the Swedish flight ban.

- We have also been in contact with the Public Health Agency and informed about what happened.

Despite the ban, it is possible to travel from the UK to Sweden, with a stopover at Copenhagen Airport Kastrup.

The airline SAS does not want to state how many people travel that way to Sweden.

- No, we do not have such figures available.

But there are a number of travelers who travel that way, says Sille Beck, spokesperson at SAS.
