Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The first corona vaccine arrived in Saxony-Anhalt on Saturday morning.

The delivery of the 9,750 vaccination doses worked as planned, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Social Affairs in Magdeburg.

They were immediately brought on their way to the districts and independent cities.

The vaccinations in retirement and nursing homes should then start on Sunday.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) and Minister of Social Affairs Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) are expected at the symbolic nationwide start in a nursing home in Dessau-Roßlau.

First of all, the homes are vaccinated and particularly endangered hospital staff are given the vaccine.

In the vaccination centers that have been set up in the districts and urban districts, work should start when sufficient vaccine is available.

Only those who have an appointment can be vaccinated.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, appointments will probably begin in mid-January.
