Title: Let Light of Science speckled mountains and rivers - Approaching 2020 "best scientists" (on)

Xinhua News Agency reporters Wen Jinghua and Zhang Quan

On this 9.6 million square kilometers of land, 91 million scientific and technological workers are struggling.

They wrote these papers in the rivers, lakes, seas, mountains, rivers, and Gobi of the motherland, and in those years of sleepless nights and vigilance.

Xinhua News Agency reporters recently approached some of the most beautiful scientific and technological workers to record their stories.

[Story 1] Fight for the motherland and people

On the eve of the Spring Festival, an urgent call made the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the internal scientist of Chinese medicine and Xiaolin to refund the air tickets to Hainan for vacation, take up the responsibility of the joint leader of the medical treatment expert group of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and board the high-speed rail bound for Wuhan.

On the first day of the new year, Tong Xiaolin went straight to the "eye of the storm" of the epidemic-Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital to treat patients.

Then, he went to fever clinics, ICUs, community isolation points, shelters—everywhere was the most dangerous place.

"Traditional Chinese medicine must face the patient directly and grasp the environment at the scene of the epidemic. Without seeing, hearing and asking, it is just talking on paper." Tong Xiaolin said.

"In special times, the first is to save people and stop the disease from continuing to develop."

"Can mild and suspected patients be treated in the community to reduce the pressure on the hospital? The focus of prevention and control must be moved to the community to cut off the epidemic from the source."

  ...

Tong Xiaolin made key judgments during the critical period and took the lead in formulating the Tongzhi prescription "cold and damp disease prescription". More than 700,000 doses of medicine were distributed in the community, and more than 50,000 people were treated. He explored the establishment of a "Chinese medicine prescription + community". The "Wuchang Model" with the "Internet" as the framework has greatly reduced the incidence of high-risk populations, prevented patients with mild illnesses from getting worse or even turning to severe cases, and built the first line of defense for community prevention and control.

From the treatment of epidemic hemorrhagic fever in the 1970s and 1980s, to the treatment of SARS in 2003 and the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic in 2020; from doctoral students to academicians, the motherland and the people are above all else, and they have been practicing medicine with Kobayashi for more than 40 years. Creed.

Tong Xiaolin, who has been fighting for 64 days in Wuhan, is exactly 64 years old this year.

To such a coincidence, Tong Xiaolin said: "As long as the country needs me and the people need me, no matter how many days, I will never hesitate and stick to it."

[Story 2] What can a seed change

He is a national advanced worker, an agricultural scientific and technical personnel who has made outstanding contributions to national food production, the first prize of national scientific and technological progress, and the top ten meritorious figures in China's seed industry...

But he often said that he was not smart, and spent more than 50 years only doing corn breeding.

He is Cheng Xiangwen, an 84-year-old maize breeding expert and honorary dean of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Hebi City, Henan Province.

In 1963, Cheng Xiangwen, who graduated from agricultural education, was assigned to the original seed farm of the Agricultural Bureau of Jun County, Hebi City.

That year, Junxian suffered a flood that was not encountered in 50 years. Cheng Xiangwen went to the countryside to rescue the disaster. The villagers held his hand tightly and said, "You are a college student studying agriculture. Can you make the land more productive? We can eat it." Just be full!

"I will never forget this picture in my life." From then on, the young man Cheng Xiangwen took the responsibility of agricultural breeding on his shoulders.

In 1964, he brought new seeds to Hainan for breeding.

It took 15 days to travel from Zhengzhou to the rural base in Sanya; early southern breeding was extremely difficult, and he never complained; the farmers used the corn hybrid seeds he brought back from Hainan in the first year, and the yield per mu increased from more than 100 jin to 700 How heavy, he was happy to bloom.

The green silk has turned white. By this year, Cheng Xiangwen has spent 55 Spring Festivals in the experimental field in Hainan Island, and has successively selected and bred 14 national and provincial-level new corn varieties. Among them, the Jundan series of corn varieties have been promoted over 300 million mu in total. .

He said that he can't do without corn in a day. "A seed can change a world. When a nation has food and health, it has unlimited development possibilities."

[Story 3] "Mushroom Lab" digs for wealth

Li Yu, a professor at Jilin Agricultural University, has been dealing with mushrooms for most of his life.

As the only academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in the field of edible fungi in China, Li Yu has devoted himself to the research of fungi science and industrialization of edible fungi for more than 30 years, and has established a germplasm resource bank that ranks among the top in China.

His innovative varieties and standardized cultivation techniques have significantly improved the output, quality and production efficiency of edible fungi in my country.

And Li Yu is not satisfied with working in the laboratory.

He said that if you can't help farmers get rich and run well and contribute to the construction of beautiful villages, what are you called agricultural science and technology workers?

Since 2012, Li Yu has proposed development strategies for the edible mushroom industry such as "migrating south mushrooms to the north" and "expanding north ears to the south", and explored new models of edible mushroom technology for poverty alleviation.

"Small fungus, big industry" refers to the achievements of Li Yu's team in poverty alleviation through science and technology.

Over the past three years, the team has selected and bred 5 fungus transplanted varieties in Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province, which have been promoted on a large scale.

Last year, Zhashui County relied on the fungus industry to get rid of poverty.

Today, Li Yu's team has established 31 edible fungus technology promotion bases, which has driven tens of thousands of poor households to rely on edible fungi to get rid of poverty.

[Story 4] Take root in the Gobi and run towards the blueprint

When the reporter saw Chen Liang, he appeared on crutches.

"I just came back from Beishan a while ago. It was minus 20 degrees Celsius at night over there. There was no light in the mountain. I stepped on the pit and got my foot."

Chen Liang is the deputy dean of the Beijing Geological Research Institute of Nuclear Industry of China National Nuclear Corporation. He has rooted in Beishan to study the geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste for nearly ten years. He has given birth to many gray hairs at the age of 38.

The safe disposal of high-level radioactive waste is a major issue related to environmental protection and the sustainable development of the nuclear industry.

The Beishan pre-selection area in northwest my country, a place with only windy sand, desert and Gobi, and even weak mobile phone signals, is the most ideal site for high-level radioactive waste disposal research.

On one side is the position of associate professor at a well-known French university, on the other side is the domestic Gobi no man's land.

Resign and return to China and go to the Gobi!

This is the choice Chen Liang made when he was 29 years old.

  why?

He said: This is a calling.

In 2009, Chen Liang, who was engaged in related research in France, learned for the first time the overall plan and progress of my country's high-level radioactive waste disposal research and development at an academic conference. For the first time, he knew that a scientific research team had been in the Gobi for decades. Draw this blueprint and sweat.

"This should be where I belong. I must go back and join this team!" Chen Liang's heart resonated strongly.

In the ten years since he returned to China, Chen Liang has gone through scorching heat and cold, gathering little with his relatives, and leading the scientific research team to achieve a series of major scientific research results in the field of repository site selection and disposal engineering technology research and development. Laboratory engineering played an important role.

During the interview, Chen Liang did not mention suffering and tiredness, but said "lucky" and "happiness": "The happiness of life is to run towards a great goal with a group of like-minded people."

[Story 5] The heart of boxing and boxing, the years can be learned

Visiting and learning all over the green hills, and returning to the country to make contributions. Chen Houqun, the leader of my country's hydraulic engineering and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is also one of them.

After graduating from Moscow's public study in 1958, he declined his tutor to stay and resolutely returned to China.

Chen Houqun has devoted himself to more than 60 years of research on hydraulic seismic engineering, presided over a series of national key research projects, and solved a large number of hydraulic engineering seismic world-class problems.

From the Tangshan Earthquake to the Wenchuan Earthquake, Chen Houqun’s research results prevented major secondary risks after the earthquake and ensured the safety of national energy, water resources, and high dams.

In his old age, he served as the director of the South-to-North Water Transfer Expert Committee and the leader of the Three Gorges Project quality inspection expert group. He led the expert team to the project site dozens of times and put forward hundreds of suggestions.

Chen Houqun, who is 88 years old this year, is still chasing his dream and went to the Three Gorges Project site last month.

Upholding the original intention of science and technology to serve the country, the old scientist continued to write papers on the rivers, lakes, and high dams of the motherland.
