Mainz (dpa) - Jan-Moritz Lichte was allowed to spend at least Christmas as the coach of Bundesliga soccer team FSV Mainz 05.
A decision on how to continue with the controversial head coach a few days after the separation from sports director Rouven Schröder will be made after the three Christmas holidays at the earliest, as a spokeswoman confirmed on Saturday.
The club had left the 40-year-old's future open at the beginning of this week.
When the cup went off against second division Bochum, Lichte could not collect any additional arguments for continued employment.
CEO Stefan Hofmann had already announced: “It will not be a normal Christmas.
We'll put our heads together and talk a lot on the phone.
Then we decide. "
The crucial question will be who will follow Schröder and whether ex-manager Christian Heidel will return to the 05ers.
"After that, the club has to make a decision as to whether working with me has a promising future," said Lichte.
"I have to wait."
The coach scored only six points from eleven Bundesliga games.
Mainz is currently in a direct relegation zone.
