Alzey (dpa / lrs) - Two people were injured in a rear-end collision on Autobahn 63 on Thursday.

A 23-year-old was just before the Alzey motorway junction in the direction of Kaiserslautern with his van drove too close to the car in front of him, as the police said.

The two cars collided, crashed into a guardrail, and ended up in the grass verge.

The 42-year-old passenger in the car in front was trapped and had to be rescued by the fire brigade. Like her 16-year-old companion, she was taken to a hospital slightly injured. The two drivers and a passenger of the person who caused the accident were uninjured. The A63 was fully closed for over an hour because of the accident, and a traffic jam of around five kilometers formed. Two rescue helicopters were also in use.
