25 December 2020Oleg Sokolov, 63 years old, the teacher, specialized in the studies of the Napoleonic period, knight of Legion d'honneur, the greatest expert on Napoleon, nicknamed "Russian Napoleon", was sentenced 12 and a half years in hard prison for murdering and cut his pupil and lover to pieces.



The court took into account repentance, an apology to the victim's family, chronic illnesses, dependent minor children and contribution to historical science.



The reason for the heinous crime was jealousy towards the young lover, Anastasia Escenko.



At the time of the crime the killer was lucid.

According to the investigation, on the night of 8 November 2019, during the conflict that broke out for reasons of jealousy, the university professor shot the 24-year-old researcher and her lover with a rifle.

The next day the historian tore the corpse to pieces, put them in some suitcases, and then tried to sink them in the Neva River.
