State TV said that the Syrian air defenses responded to an Israeli aggression at dawn today, Friday, on the Masyaf area in Hama countryside.

The Syrian TV quoted a military statement as saying that "at exactly 12:40 am this morning, the Israeli enemy launched an aggression by directing a barrage of missiles from the north of the Lebanese city of Tripoli towards Masyaf area in the western countryside of Hama."

He added that the air defense "responded to the enemy missiles and shot down most of them."

Syrian state television broadcast footage it said showed the air defenses repelling the Israeli attack, and warplanes were heard over Lebanon before the attack, according to the French Press Agency.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in Britain also stated that "violent explosions occurred in the Masyaf area in the western Hama countryside, most likely as a result of Israeli bombing."

He added that the attack targeted "military sites of the regime forces and the Iranian militias loyal to them in the vicinity of the city of Masyaf, west of Hama," without giving further details.

Israel rarely confirms its military operations in Syria, but says that the Iranian military presence in support of President Bashar al-Assad poses a threat to it, and that it will continue its strikes there.
