Damascus (dpa) - According to activists, Israel once again bombed targets in Syria, killing at least six fighters allied with Iran.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday that the rocket attack in Hama province in the center of the civil war country also destroyed weapons stores and facilities for building rockets.

According to Syrian state media, the projectiles were fired from Lebanese airspace.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said on request: "We do not comment on foreign reports."

Like Russia, Iran is an important ally of President Bashar al-Assad's Syrian government.

Iranian troops and their allied militias from Iraq and Lebanon have been fighting alongside government troops since the beginning of the civil war in 2011.

Israel repeatedly attacks targets in Syria and warns that Iran wants to expand its military influence there and in other parts of the region.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights counted more than 30 air strikes by Israel in Syria in the current year.

The Syrian air defense intercepted the "enemy" missiles and destroyed most of them, the state news agency Sana reported, citing military sources.
