Two days before the official launch of the French vaccination campaign against the coronavirus, we now know the device for monitoring the potential side effects of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.

Each medical staff and each patient will be invited to report any abnormal reaction to the authorities.

This is what most repels some of the French from taking the plunge in vaccination against Covid: the potential side effects.

As they live the holiday season in the shadow of the coronavirus, the vaccine appears to be the best hope for returning to normal life.

The High Authority of Health (HAS) also gave the green light to that of Pfizer / BioNTech on Thursday, three days before the official launch of the vaccination campaign in France.

If it has been found to be effective, any side effects caused by the German-American tandem vaccine will nevertheless be closely monitored by the health authorities.

Reports sent to the authorities ...

As of Sunday, medical staff and patients will be invited to report any abnormal reaction to the injection.

They can do this with their doctor or pharmacist, but also in regional pharmacovigilance centers set up in hospitals.

It will also be possible to make a report via the site signalalement.social-sante.gouv.fr.

These data will then be closely scrutinized by the Medicines Safety Agency, but also by artificial intelligences.

With this device, the stated objective is to be able to give the alert as quickly as possible in the event of doubt about a side effect.

In addition, the health authorities have undertaken to communicate the figures for these reports every week.

... to track down rare side effects

Clinical trials have already shown that pain at the injection site can occur in 80% of cases, headaches, fatigue or even stiffness.

For HAS, the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine remains well tolerated in most cases, and symptoms resolve quickly.

But as a precaution, the vaccine is not recommended for people who have already developed allergies to another vaccine.

It is therefore indeed the rarer potential side effects, and for which scientists lack perspective, that are the target of this monitoring system.
