Morocco's King Mohammed VI held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday evening.
The Moroccan Royal Court said that the Moroccan monarch reiterated during the call the steadfast position of the Kingdom of Morocco on the Palestinian issue, and assured Netanyahu of the pioneering role of Morocco in the promotion of peace and stability in the Middle East.
The Moroccan monarch noted the reactivation of cooperation mechanisms between Morocco and Israel, and the regular resumption of contacts, within the framework of peaceful and friendly diplomatic relations.
Last Tuesday, the King of Morocco received an American and Israeli delegation, and during the visit an agreement was signed to resume diplomatic relations between Morocco and Israel.
The agreement was signed by Jared Kushner, advisor to the US President, and the Moroccan Prime Minister Saad Eddin El Othmani, and Israeli National Security Adviser Meir Ben Shabat.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said - after the signing ceremony - that the Israeli liaison office would reopen in Rabat within the next two weeks.
He explained that the United States, Israel and Morocco are aware that "establishing peaceful, friendly and complete diplomatic relations is in the interest of Morocco and Israel, and would serve peace in the region."
For his part, Kushner expressed his "happiness to participate in the inauguration of a new era of cooperation between Morocco and Israel."
In a speech in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, he said, "Both countries are taking a big step by declaring their commitment to resume diplomatic relations and develop economic cooperation between them."
