Do you remember the huge mountain of fat in London's sewer system?

Now VA Syd in Malmö has picked up a smaller "cousin" from a pipeline in central Malmö - 80x40 centimeters large and packed with tops.

Fats and tops

Cooking oil and grease that is flushed down the sink or drain gets stuck on the inside of the pipes and solidifies into large cement-like plugs.

This leads to a blockage in the drain and thus a risk of flooding.

- The main contents are cooking fat, tops that form a reinforcement and household paps that do not belong in the drain and that should be thrown in the garbage bag, says Nina Steiner, communicator at VA Syd.

Christmas party for the rats

Larger amounts of grease can get all the way to the sewage treatment plant, but risk creating an imbalance in the treatment process.

Grease in the drain can also contribute to problems with rats which then get a feast.

- Christmas is a great holiday and then not just for us.

Rats love fat.

So our Christmas table will be their Christmas table in the sewers, says Nina Steiner.

-These things should absolutely not be flushed down the toilet or poured down the drain, says Nina Steiner at VA Syd.
