In the video, the dog Nemo looks intently into the camera and waves his tail to the notes of invigorating music.

At the same time, a text is shown that tells of the president dog's unhappy start in life.

"My story begins with me being abandoned ... But since August 2017 I have a family".

The Macron couple bought Nemo at a home for abandoned dogs for the equivalent of around SEK 2,500.

The call: Make an effort - adopt

Many are the French pets who, like Nemo, are abandoned.

But of all the 100,000 dogs, cats and other animals that are left to fend for themselves by their owners every year, many never get a new home.

That is why Macron is now urging the French to adopt abandoned animals during the Christmas holidays.

But it must be done in a responsible and conscious way, reads the call in the video.

Macron also takes the opportunity to draw attention to a political proposal to invest EUR 20 million in, among other things, better care for animals taken care of and tougher penalties for animal cruelty.
