(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Canada Approves Second New Coronary Vaccine

China News Service, Toronto, December 23 (Reporter Yu Ruidong) The Canadian government announced on December 23 that the new coronavirus vaccine of the American pharmaceutical company Moderna has been approved.

This is the second new crown vaccine approved in Canada and available on the market.

Canadian officials announced on December 9 the approval of the mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) new crown vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer and BioNTech in the United States, and began to be vaccinated in various places on the 14th.

The data picture shows the box containing Pfizer vaccine unloaded from the air transport container.

The Modena vaccine is also an mRNA vaccine, but it can be stored in an ordinary refrigerator instead of being stored or transported in an ultra-low temperature environment of minus 70 degrees Celsius like Pfizer vaccine.

The Canadian Ministry of Health said this means that the Modena vaccine can be distributed to remote areas.

The Modena vaccine also needs to be injected twice, one month apart.

It is currently suitable for people over 18 years of age.

According to the information provided by the government, after testing about 30,000 people, the effective rate of the vaccine was 94.1% within two weeks after the completion of two injections.

The Canadian government has so far pre-purchased about 414 million doses of 7 new crown vaccines from different pharmaceutical companies around the world, including 40 million to 56 million doses of Modena vaccine.

There are currently two vaccines from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson waiting for official approval.

Pfizer vaccines are being given priority to medical staff, long-term care facility personnel and other groups in various parts of Canada. No serious adverse reactions have been reported.

Canadian officials said it expects to receive about 168,000 doses of Modena vaccine before the end of this year.

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau told the media in Ottawa that the country is expected to receive at least 1.2 million doses of Pfizer and Modena vaccines by the end of January 2021.

Trudeau also announced that Canada's entry ban on passenger flights from the United Kingdom will be extended until January 6, 2021.

In view of the emergence of variant new coronavirus infection cases in some parts of the UK, Canada has suspended all commercial and private passenger flights from the UK from entering the country on December 21.

Canadian health officials said that there are currently no cases of mutated new coronavirus infection in Canada.

As of the evening of December 23, Canada has reported more than 527,000 cases and more than 14,000 deaths.
