He has been denying his intention to kill her for two and a half years.
Before the Assize Court of Ille-et-Vilaine, he ended up confessing.
On Friday, a man was sentenced to twenty years in prison for attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend.
The facts took place in Chanteloup, south-east of Rennes, in the spring of 2018.
Believing her former companion absent, the woman had come to collect some things.
It had been slashed with a cutter, before being sprayed with gasoline.
The man then grabbed a lighter but the victim was able to escape through the roof, just before the house caught fire.
According to
Ouest-France
, the 47-year-old man apologized to his ex-girlfriend, from whom he had been separated for a month at the time of the facts.
The prison sentence is not accompanied by a safety sentence.
