This year, 357 women have sought support and help from Uppsala Women's Shelter.

Some are recurring, others new exposed.

The figure is more than in previous years, but can not be linked to the corona pandemic.

- We have not yet seen that it has anything to do with it because it has increased for several years, but it is clear that the isolation that the pandemic has entailed leads to a greater risk of violence against women, says Cecilia Simander, information officer at Uppsala Women's Shelter.

Christmas greater risk

Now a Christmas weekend is approaching and then a New Year's celebration - holidays where the coronavirus puts an end to major celebrations, and thus transparency in violent situations.

- The isolation will be even more this year when relatives and friends can not participate, so the risk of violence increases.

We have not noticed it now, but it is as usual after the weekends that we are contacted.

And we are prepared, says Cecilia Simander.
