This year again, many French people will prefer to resell some of their Christmas gifts.

As in 2019, eBay is partnering with the CKDB association (CéKeDuBonheur) to enable resellers to do a good deed.

Last year, more than 80K € were collected for the association.

A duplicate book, an item of clothing not the right size… this year again, 7.3 million French people are already planning to resell some of their Christmas gifts.

The motivations behind these resales differ, and so does the way they are viewed.

In any case, this is a steadily increasing trend in recent years, and 363 million euros will be spent on these unwanted gifts.

With this in mind, eBay offers a simple, fast resale system, but above all turns it into a good deed.

Because for any gift sold with the #CKDB, € 1 is donated to the CéKeDuBonheur association.

A phenomenon that is attracting more and more French people

The resale of Christmas gifts is democratizing in the French landscape and is becoming a trend followed by a growing number of consumers.

eBay offers to easily put its gifts up for sale, at a fixed price or at auction.

200,000 new listings are expected on eBay on Christmas Day, reaching 3.5 million between December 25 and January 3.

"Despite a difficult year for the French […] we expect, as every year, a peak of new announcements from December 25, a number which increases each year by 10%. Questions of purchasing power or circular economy, the French are more and more inclined to this type of practice "

, explains Sarah Tayeb, head of the sales department at eBay in France.

EBay's 5 tips for effective reselling

- Do not unpack the product

- Specify in the advertisement that it is a Christmas present

- Mention the price of the new item and the percentage of reduction (from 10% to 15%)

- Make pretty photos

- Provide as many details as possible about the product

Requirements that differ according to age

Millennials are the most demanding (1 in 2 claim to have been disappointed with at least one gift last year), but also the least inclined to resell… for the simple fear of being unmasked, for 15% of them!

A trend that decreases with age, because while 38% of 16-34 year olds prefer to keep their unwanted gifts, this is the case for only 26% of 55-64 year olds.

Once the gift is on sale, what to do with the amount collected?

43% of French people want to save, and 40% will use it to finance Christmas.

Finally, 8% will donate it to a charity.

Note also that 38% of French people would say they are delighted to learn that their gift has been resold for the benefit of an association.

eBay is committed

Resale is a trend that is democratizing and on eBay, it also allows people to mobilize to make dreams come true.

From December 25 to January 17, eBay agrees to donate € 1 to the CéKeDuBonheur association for any item sold with the #CKDB.

The CéKéDuBonheur association is mobilized every day to help pediatric services improve the living conditions of children staying in hospital.

Creation of events, meeting of personalities, organization of outings and fun workshops, help in fitting out premises… Thanks to donations, everything is done to improve the lives of hospitalized children and adolescents, and that of families.

This year, the funds raised will finance a project to fight against sedentary lifestyle among young patients and improve their physical and mental well-being.

This will notably involve setting up online sports workshops.
