Kiel (AP) - According to a report by the “Kieler Nachrichten” (Wednesday), the European handball federation (EHF) is now sticking to its original bonus model for the final tournament of the Champions League on December 28 and 29 in Cologne.
“The Final Four is the top event in club handball.
How great the importance is is also shown by the fact that the Final Four takes place at all, ”said EHF President Michael Wiederer of the newspaper.
After the 2019/20 season was canceled in the spring and THW Kiel, FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Telekom Veszprem placed for the finals, the EHF had originally decided to take 250,000 euros from the bonus pot.
The money should be used to compensate clubs that missed the knockout round.
As the “Kieler Nachrichten” reports on, the EHF is now distributing 6.6 million instead of the originally planned 4.5 million euros to the men's and women's Champions League clubs after the 2019/20 financial year.
The original regulation for Cologne continues to exist.
The winner receives 500,000 euros, the loser in the final 250,000 euros.
Third and fourth places are rewarded with 150,000 and 100,000 euros, respectively.
