Braunschweig (AP) - Eintracht Braunschweig mourns the captain of his championship team from 1967. Long-time Bundesliga player Achim Bäse died on Tuesday at the age of 81 after a short serious illness in a nursing home in Braunschweig, the club announced on Wednesday.

«This news shortly before Christmas is a shock for the club and for many fans.

Achim Bäse will be remembered as a person and as an athlete in Braunschweig », said Eintracht managing director Wolfram Benz.

Bäse played a total of 321 games for Braunschweig and scored 31 goals.
