Fulda (dpa / lhe) - After several ATMs were blown up, the Fulda regional court sentenced three men to several years' imprisonment on Wednesday.

The court is convinced that they were guilty of causing explosives, theft and the preparation of explosions.

With a changing line-up, they would have blown up ATMs in East Hesse and stolen around 264,000 euros.

The two main defendants, aged 46 and 40, are due for seven years and three months in prison, while the 42-year-old was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.

After several months of circumstantial trial, the court came to the conclusion that the defendants blew up an ATM in Nüsttal-Hofaschenbach (Fulda district) on October 23, 2017, causing around 50,000 euros in damage.

The ATM, filled with 122,000 euros, had withstood the explosion.

When a vending machine was blown up in Kalbach-Uttrichshausen (District of Fulda) on December 6, 2017, the perpetrators captured 264 200 euros.

The property damage: around 44,000 euros.

On February 24, 2018, around 50,000 euros in damage to a machine in Hohenroda-Mansbach (Hersfeld-Rotenburg district).

As in the first of the three cases, the perpetrators did not steal any money.

The three defendants had denied the allegations in court.

The police had secured DNA traces and analyzed cell phone data.

Shortly after the machine was blown up in Hofaschenbach, a car was flashed in Hofbieber in the Fulda district.

During a police check, officers found duct tape, a stun gun, pry tools and a money counting machine in a car.

32 addresses of banks were stored in the navigation system.

The judge underlined the high level of criminal energy of the defendants, who all have criminal records and have already served prison terms.

After months of surveillance, the police arrested the trio.

The judgments are not yet final.

The defense attorneys for the two defendants, aged 46 and 42, have already announced that they will appeal.

The 40-year-old's lawyer wants to speak to his client first.
