Berlin (dpa / bb) - Festive dinner, punch and a small Christmas present to go: Since the big Christmas parties for the needy cannot take place due to the Corona restrictions, there will be Christmas to take away at various locations of the Berlin City Mission this year.

"We cannot offer three Christmas parties of 70 guests in our rooms as usual, but we still try to create a nice Christmas Eve for just as many people," said Wilhelm Nadolny, the head of the station mission at the zoo.

In the early afternoon of the 24th, four windows should open so that the guests there, as with the city mission near the main train station, can receive the little Christmas gifts one after the other.

In front of the City-Station near Kurfürstendamm, guests get potato salad and sausages, non-alcoholic punch and a present on Christmas Eve.

"This offer is primarily for our older guests from the neighborhood who live in poverty in old age and people with shelter who do not want to be alone, but can no longer travel so long," explained the manager Anna-Sofie Gerth.

Some of them have been celebrating Christmas in the City-Station for years.

Normally around 140 guests gathered there on Christmas Eve, said Gerth.

This year, due to the pandemic, around 100 guests are expected there.

"But if 120 guests come, we can manage it."
