“We see, especially in recent months, how hard the West has become in relation to the republican leadership, how scathing expressions are not particularly chosen in a number of European capitals and the United States,” Mezentsev said.

He added that the Western countries express an "extremely tough attitude" towards Belarus, and also give "not legal, rather emotional assessments" of the situation in the republic.

Earlier, the United States imposed visa restrictions against 39 persons from Belarus.

The US Treasury also announced the introduction of new sanctions against a number of organizations and officials of Belarus, including against the country's first deputy minister of internal affairs, Gennady Kazakevich.
