The case of Mr. Weinstein, who was nominated by US President Donald Trump as the next ambassador to Japan, has virtually returned to a blank slate, and President-elect Biden is expected to appoint a new ambassador to Japan.

In March, US President Donald Trump appointed Kenneth Weinstein, director of the conservative think tank Hudson Institute, as the next ambassador to Japan.

Mr. Weinstein's case was approved by the Senate's diplomatic committee in September, but the Senate plenary session was not voted on after that, and Congress closed all deliberations on the 21st. It was virtually closed.

In the federal parliament, a new parliament will be convened on the 3rd of next month to reflect the results of the elections of the House and Senate that took place at the same time as the presidential election last month, and Mr. Weinstein's personnel case has virtually returned to a blank slate. President-elect Biden is expected to appoint a new ambassador to Japan.

The ambassador to Japan has been vacant since former Ambassador Hagati resigned in July last year to run for the Senate election.

It will take at least a few months before a new ambassador is appointed by the new administration, which will be launched next month, and the parliamentary approval process is complete.
