Erfurt (dpa / th) - The spending of Thuringian households on toys has increased significantly within ten years.

According to the latest available figures from the Thuringian State Office for Statistics on Tuesday, Thuringians spent an average of 120 euros per household on toys in 2018.

That was around 67 percent more than in 2008, when the amount was 72 euros.

Nevertheless, the Thuringians still spent 12 euros less on toys in 2018 than the German population on average.

As expected, households with children would spend more on toys than the average Thuringian household.

Households of couples with children and single parents would have donated an average of 324 euros a year for toys.

Toys, in addition to dolls, board games, children's toys and model trains, also include computer and video games in the statistics.

Meanwhile, spending on books, including e-books, was downward according to these figures.

Compared to 2008, Thuringian households spent around 27 percent less on books (2008: 132 euros, 2018: 96 euros).

Couples with children and single parents invest an average of 156 euros annually on books - significantly more than the average Thuringian household.
